If you want to go further up into the mountains from Lauterbrunnen, you have to leave your car here. There is a large parking garage at the train station. Alternatively, you can take the train from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen. Various mountain railroads take tourists and locals from the valley up into the mountains of the Bernese Alps.
The most important railroad from Lauterbrunnen is the Wengernalpbahn. It goes from Lauterbrunnen via the world-famous ski resort of Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg and on to Grindelwald. In Kleine Scheidegg you can transfer to the Jungfraujoch, the highest train station in Europe.

The center of Lauterbrunnen with the typical wooden houses of the Bernese Alps
Lauterbrunnen has many beautiful houses. It has become more and more a tourist resort, with hotels, restaurants, etc. The village is relatively small, under 1,000 inhabitants.
The biggest attractions around Lauterbrunnen are waterfalls. Seen from Interlaken behind Lauterbrunnen are the Staubbach Falls and the Trümmelbach Falls. The Staubbach Falls, almost directly in the village of Lauterbrunnen, do not charge an entrance fee. However, the Trümmelbach Falls, a few kilometers behind the village as seen from Interlaken, costs admission (14 francs in 2024).

Lauterbrunnen Parking: We recommend the parking lot at the church. Like all parking lots, this one is metered, but only about 1 franc per hour in 2023. It is in the back of town on a sharp curve. From here it is about 100 to 200 meters to the center and in the other direction 200 meters to the Staubbach waterfall. For long-term parkers, the parking garage at the train station is suitable.
